Tendon
Tendon combines the traditional woven craftsmanship of rattan with industrial materials to offer viewers a modern experience, expanding the possibilities of rattan furniture.
This project brings together the strengths of both rattan and steel: durable steel rods form the structure, while flexible rattan creates the surfaces with warm touch, resulting in a furniture series that achieves a harmonious balance between strength and elegance.
Traditional Rattan Crafts in Taiwan
Taiwan, located in the subtropical region, earned the nickname “The Kingdom of Rattan” for its abundant rattan resources and thriving processing industry during the 1970s and 1980s.
Although the rattan industry has declined due to high labor costs, the memory of rattan furniture remains strong. Traditional rattan chairs continue to appear in daily life, reflecting the inseparable bond between rattan craftsmanship and Taiwanese culture.
